Gemini Data - Making a powerful app feel like it was built for you
Gemini Data had something genuinely exciting on their hands — an application called Gemini Explore that put the power of data contextualization into the hands of everyday people, no Data Scientists or IT tickets required. The only problem? The creative didn't reflect that promise. It was dark, heavy, and filled with imagery that had little to do with data. For a product built around accessibility and clarity, the design was doing the opposite.
The first thing I did was let some light in — literally. I stripped back the darkness and rebuilt the visual foundation around white space, clean layouts, and accented colors that felt fresh and inviting. The goal was simple: if Gemini Explore is for everyone, it should feel welcoming to everyone.
From there, I turned my attention to iconography. Data products live and die by how well they communicate complex ideas quickly, so I developed a custom icon set that was easy to understand at a glance while still feeling as unique as the application itself. No generic stock icons — everything was designed to feel native to the Gemini world.
Then came the architectural diagrams — arguably the most important piece of the puzzle. These needed to take something that could easily feel intimidating and make it feel obvious. Clear, simple, and compelling enough to make anyone think "I get it, and I need this."
That visual language then carried through to everything — website, social images, case studies, investor decks, and more. One cohesive creative system that finally matched the ambition of the product it was representing.
